REPORTS TO: Support Center Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

The Education Specialist is responsible for responding to calls and emails from staff at US Military Child & Youth Programs worldwide regarding the inclusion of children with and without disabilities. The Education Specialist will provide detailed recommendations and strategies in phone conferences, giving detailed written follow-up and conducting check-in calls three weeks after the initial contact. Additionally, the Education Specialist will assist with the processing of Inclusion Action Team referral forms and will provide follow-up support for questions resulting from KIT webinars. The Education Specialist may conduct KIT trainings at affiliate organizations within San Diego County.

CLASSIFICATION OF POSITION: Full Time Exempt

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Responds to calls and emails during published Support Center hours (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am-2pm PST/PDT) and conducted scheduled calls outside of those hours.
  2. Provide detailed written documentation of strategies recommended.
  3. Conduct scheduled conference calls and respond to emails outside of published Support Center hours.
  4. Process Inclusion Action Team referral forms, ensuring response within one business day and proper data storage.
  5. Conduct child-specific consultations for KIT affiliates in San Diego County.
  6. Provide follow-up resources and respond to questions from KIT bi-monthly webinars.
  7. Use KIT’s Efforts to Outcomes online data tracking software to record Support Center efforts.
  8. If appropriate, may conduct training or site visits within San Diego County.
  9. Attend regular staff meetings.
  10. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, National Training Center on Inclusion.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform similar or additional duties as requested by supervisor.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  1. Four-year degree from an accredited college or university (Masters, credential or certification in relevant area preferred).
  2. Special education, child or youth development background.
  3. Experience providing inclusive programs to children.
  4. Strong customer service orientation.
  5. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  6. Sophisticated understanding of inclusion.
  7. Experience delivering training to adults (preferred).
